Design Phase

The first major phase of the project was the design phase, which was fundamental to the success or failure of the project as a whole. As a consequence, much time was spent ensuring that this was managed and carried out effectively. The design phase started out with an extensive literature review in order to understand the subject area and gain specifications the design must adhere to. This led to a concept generation and analysis stage whereby concepts were evealuated on various parameters to determine which concepts would be taken into the modelling phase. The modelling took the form of concurrent CFD analysis (system placement, diffuser head design, overall flow analysis) and energy modelling (fan sizing, heating element sizing, HVAC energy comparison). The results of this phase resulted in the final design which would be taken to the build phase. It is also important to note that a feedback loop existed if the final design did not meet specifications and the cycle would begin again. This loop can be seen in our project gateway diagram shown here. The whole design phase can be seen below. Further information on each of the sections can be found on the design sub pages which can be accesssed by clicking on the section in the diagram or in the top menu.
